01/07/2009 Although the gaming and animation industry is still in its infancy, it is rapidly expanding in our country. The low cost of human resources and the changing preferences of people are the main reasons behind this growth. This sector has the potential to create a large number of jobs and employment opportunities. Therefore, it is essential for the government to support this industry. The upcoming budget should be the primary platform for this support. Tax Holiday for Companies in Animation/Gaming: It is crucial to provide a 10-year tax holiday for companies involved in animation and gaming production. This will help reduce the cost of designing gaming assets and acquiring intellectual property rights, enabling the industry to thrive and achieve rapid growth. Skilled Professionals Needed: According to NASSCOM estimates, the gaming and animation industry will require 300,000 skilled professionals in the near future. The government should support the establishment of educational courses and training programs to meet this demand. Introduction of Gaming/Animation Degrees: Introducing degree programs in gaming and animation will allow students to directly enter this sector and build their careers. This model has already been implemented successfully in countries like the UK, Canada, and the Philippines. Special Economic Zones (SEZs): The government should set up Special Economic Zones (SEZs) with the objective of expanding the gaming and animation sector. It is essential to provide land allocation and financial support for companies to establish production centers in these zones. Digital Entertainment City: The Andhra Pradesh government's initiative to create a "Digital Entertainment City" is commendable. The central government should take the lead in implementing this model nationwide. If appropriate allocations and proposals are made in the upcoming budget, it will provide a significant boost to the industry. Support in the Upcoming Budget: With the right allocations and proposals in the upcoming budget, the industry will receive the necessary support and momentum. L.
